Well after a long hiatus we’re finally back on the blogging scene and being that is our first article since January we thought we would start off discussing website security. You may or may not have noticed that Pulsar Media is now 100% secure…yup that’s right, we’ve gone SSL. What does this mean? It means that each time you enter your login credentials, register a new Pulsar Media account or browse content on our site the data being transmitted back and forth between the client side (that’s you) and the server is fully encrypted.
So why have we gone SSL? Two reasons really:
- Keep out those pesky hackers
- Improve Google search rankings
Wait, what? Improve Google search rankings you say? Yup that’s right, Google recently announced that websites that make use of SSL encryption will rank higher than those that do not. This is all in an effort of encouraging website owners to keep there websites safe and we are all for it…kudos to Google for taking this approach.
Ok so how can i encrypt my website you ask? Well that’s easy, you can inquire with your hosting provider about purchasing an SSL certificate or you can go with a third party service such as TrustWave. We would recommend purchasing one through your hosting provider as they can also assist you with installing the SSL certificate on your domain – leaving less headaches on your part.
If you do decide to take the leap and secure your website be sure to check out the WordPress HTTPS (SSL) plug-in. What does this plug-in do exactly? It simply ensures that all of your content being loaded on the client side (that’s you again) is done through the SSL encryption.
So if you’re feeling secure and want to stay that way then we recommend going SSL…like today!
